Congratulations
to all Skerries sailors who recently took part in the Mirror National
Championships followed by the Mirror Worlds in Lough Derg.
Cian
Hickey (SSC) and Caolan Croasdell (LRYC) came second in the National
Championships and were beaten by Ridgely
Balladres and Rommel Chavez of the Philippines National Sailing squad in a
fleet of 68 boats. Many of the world’s best Mirror sailors took part in the
National Championships as a warm up for the World Championships which took
place in week two. With boats from Australia, Canada, the Philippines, Republic
of South Africa, Sweden, Great Britain and Ireland it was a truly international
affair.
Kerri-Anne
Boylan and Ros Morgan came 21st with
Eoin Hickey and Sadbh Culleton coming 35th followed by Megan Boylan and Ellen
Ennis in 36th place.
George
O’Connor and Aaron Rogers won Bronze fleet in their first Mirror national event
coming 39th. They also won best performance in their age class.
The second
week brought a change in the weather with increased wind, rain and an
additional 23 boats bringing the fleet to 91.
Again Cian
Hickey and Caolan Croasdell represented Skerries well finishing 16th overall in Gold Fleet with Kerri-Anne
and Ros finishing 28th.
Megan and
Ellen finished 17th in
Silver (47th overall), followed by George and Aaron in 23rd place (53rd overall).
Eoin
Hickey and Sadhbh won the Bronze fleet (55th overall).
